Another step towards

Agriculture
Sustainable

The key to sustainable agriculture is meeting the needs of present and future generations for products and services, while also ensuring profitability, the health of the environment and social and financial equality.

The Avocado 360º industrial research initiative, coordinated by the OnTech Innovation cluster, aims to become part of that challenge which began in the first phase with Avocado Streaming. In this second development phase, the aim is to create an Artificial Intelligence tool that can detect when avocados are perfectly ripe.

Evocato 360º

The revolution in harvesting avocados

Is a tool capable of detecting the perfect level of ripeness for an avocado?
Yes, it is! We are working on it!

  • Eliminate the costs associated with the current techniques for determining the ripeness of the fruit.

  • Improve the quality of the avocados reaching the end consumer.

  • Strengthen the competitiveness of the companies and the agri-food industry

  • Minimise the impact of this activity on the environment and reduce costs.

The Avocado 360º R&D and innovation initiative aims to develop a prediction system through the use of artificial intelligence techniques, including machine learning. These are based on the analysis of different sources of data such as the evolution of the micro-climate on the farms being assessed, the crop’s phenological responses and the different observations about pests and possible diseases.

Its aim? To ensure the best possible avocado harvest, guaranteeing picking at the moment the fruit are at the perfect level of ripeness.

The Consortium

The consortium is made up of partners who have previously worked together on different projects, which has generated a strong commitment to the objectives of this revolutionary project.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES S.L.

Nazaríes is leading the different integration stages of the project, for both hardware and software. Its extensive experience in the development and manufacture of sensors (and IoT devices in general), as well as the computer systems that support that hardware, make it the ideal partner for this task.

LA CAÑA BUSINESS GROUP

This partner is leading on the phases of gathering requirements and validation at the highest level. In addition, it is providing the natural use location for the prototype to be developed, contributing its extensive technical experience in the most agronomic aspects of this project.

Management and coordination

The largest digital economy business organization and the largest technological and biotechnological cluster in Andalusia, OnGranada, coordinates this innovative research project, which unites top-level companies and universities.

FUNDACIÓN I+D DEL SOFTWARE LIBRE

This is another technical-scientific partner in the consortium. It is contributing all its knowledge to the search for the best artificial intelligence method that, starting from the chromaticity coordinates of the sensor, as well as other indicators to be assessed, obtains the best relationship with the dry matter parameter.

Data collection and sensor technology

The University of Granada’s ECSens Group is the scientific-technical partner with extensive experience of developing sensors for analysing food, among others. Its contribution is closely linked to the colorimetry techniques to be applied in the search for that unequivocal pattern that links the chromaticity coordinates with the dry matter parameter of interest to us. In addition, it will be involved in the electronic design of the mobile prototype to find a robust and reliable solution.

Marketing and Communication

Terceto Comunicación SL is the SME that, as an organisation specialising in all aspects of communication, is responsible for the design and implementation of the project’s Communication and Dissemination Plan, coordinating with the rest of the members of the consortium.
